Jerome Block

Jerome BlockJerome (Jerry) Block is a partner at Levy Konigsberg LLP with expertise in cases involving mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases and lung cancer. He has successfully won cases for his clients against the tobacco industry and the asbestos manufacturers and is the only lawyer in New York State to have done so.

Jerry has won many landmark and precedent-setting cases in both of his areas of expertise.

In 2003, Jerry won the nation’s first mesothelioma damages case against a manufacturer of defective welding rods, and in 2007 won the first cases for victims of asbestos from commercial cable, valves and steam traps. In 2008 and 2009 he earned verdicts for a Navy boilerman and a submarine yard worker who both developed mesothelioma as a result of their work for the US Navy in New York State. In 2014, he won a case on behalf of a woman who developed mesothelioma as a result of her Ford mechanic ex-husband’s asbestos exposure.

He has also won decisive cases in damages as a result of youth smoking. In 2012, he won a judgment against R.J. Reynolds and in 2013 against Philip Morris for men who developed lung cancer as a result of smoking as children before health warnings appeared on cigarette packages.

Jerry has tried cases all over the United States and has appeared to defend his jury verdicts before some of the highest courts in the country including the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Delaware. He has won an extraordinary percentage of his cases and has never had a jury verdict reversed.

Jerry earned his degree from Emory Law School, where he was one of the editors of the Emory Law Journal and a member of the prestigious Order of the Coif. After graduation, he served as a law clerk with the U.S. District court in the Eastern District of Missouri for the Honorable Jean C. Hamilton. He has also worked for an international law firm representing large corporations involved in complicated multi-party litigation before becoming a part of the LK team in 2001. He returned to Emory in May 2007 as part of the national faculty for the Trial Techniques Program.

Best Lawyers in America has included Jerry every year since 2005 and he’s been featured by both the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 list and Super Lawyers in New York City. He is also regularly invited to lecture on jury trial tactics as well as asbestos litigation at many national conferences.
