Robert I. KomitorAs a partner at Levy Konigsberg LLP, Robert I. Komitor is an expert in negligence, product liability and personal injury cases. He is considered to be one of the leading authorities on trial practices and environmental and toxic torts. His specific areas of expertise concern pollution, hazardous wastes and mesothelioma.

His experience in mesothelioma compensation includes some of the largest damage awards in the United States. The highlights of his career include the “New York Powerhouse” case, which resulted in the country’s largest mesothelioma award in 1991 and the Brooklyn Navy Yard consolidated legislation, which holds the same distinction for 1992 per The National Law Journal. He went on to win the largest mesothelioma case in New York State in 1993 (with the LK partner Moshe Maimon), 1996 and 2003.

This distinctive performance has earned him a place in The National Law Journal as one of the lawyers winning the largest verdicts in the nation for three years running. He also earned the title of one of the nation’s Best Lawyers, according to Gregory W. Smith and Steven W. Naifeh’s The Best Lawyers in America 2005-2010 (Woodward/White), with the specialty in mass torts.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Environmental Sciences from Stony Brook University’s Marine Sciences Research Center. He earned his law degree from the Hofstra University School of Law. He was also one of the editors of the Hofstra Law Review.

In addition to his legal practice, he is also heavily involved in the legal community. He’s served as a member of the Products Liability Committee of the New York City Bar Association and has been a chairman of both the New York State Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Committee on Environmental Law and the G-I Holding’s Bankruptcy Creditors’ Committee. Currently, he serves on the Trust Advisory Committee on the Ray Tech and G-I Holding’s Trust.

He has given lectures for many esteemed institutions, such as the American Association of Trial Lawyers (ATLA), American Bar Association, the American Conference Institute, Harris Martin Conferences, HB Litigation Conferences, Mealey’s Conferences and the Perrin Conferences. He has also published several articles on the legal aspects of exposure to toxic substances and unsafe products.
